5 ART IDEAS WITH LEAVES TO ENGAGE YOUR CHILD !!

The whole of November and December was raining heavily and we were in the lookout for new ideas to engage our children.

That's when we came up with the thought of making ART with LEAVES.

When I told my son, he immediately liked it and we planned a few ideas together.

Let's explore them.. I am sure this is going to be a satisfying activity for the kids. Third activity was closer to us!!

1.LEAF PEACOCK and LEAF FAIRY:

Materials needed- LEAVES, PEACOCK REFERENCE IMAGE, WATERCOLORS/ ACRYLIC COLORS, GLUE, PAPER.

I drew a peacock outline for the body, as we had already planned the feathers to be filled with leaves. You can take a peacock picture for reference, and we colored the leaves with green,  blue and purple to match the original feathers.

We used watercolors, any type of coloring would work here.

Let the leaves dry and stick them one by one to the feathers portion and our peacock made out of leaves is ready!  You can try various animals and birds like this..

Fairy is done in a similar manner. We added leaves as wings.

2. LEAF DOODLES:

Materials needed- LEAVES, MARKERS/ PAINT AND BRUSH

This was my favourite activity and it ended up taking us to ancient ages. You will get to know why, in the forthcoming description.

We used white, gold and bright red colors.

The best part was deciding what to doodle and my son came up with an intriguing idea of writing in ancient runes (though our work looked like alphabets, that very thought was spontaneous and worth mentioning). I know this sounded mystical but we had loads  of fun talking about it.

I did a few doodles too, and we decorated them by hanging the leaves and adding some lights. It was all festive.

3. ICECREAM STICK Sibling:

Kids love to represent themselves  in any form like a character in a story, so  we made a brother-sister combo with ice-cream sticks, leaves and flowers.

Materials needed: Ice-cream sticks, glue, leaves, flowers and markers.

We drew faces first and then stuck the leaves to the stick. Added a flower to the head to complete the look. This was amazing. We liked it and  hope you like it too.

 4.LEAF GARLAND:

This is inspired from our flower garland which we regularly use for rituals..

Materials needed- Leaves, twine, pipe cleaner.

We stretched the twine and made a knot at one end. Made small holes for the twine to enter with a pipe cleaner, and we used it as a needle. Then string the leaves together, one by one until  desired length or until you have used all the leaves. To add details, if wooden beads are available you may add them in between like in the picture. You have your garland ready now.

5. LEAF STENCIL:

Materials needed: Leaves, colors, brush and some ideas.

Valentine's day is around the corner and we wanted to spread some love. So we made cut outs in the leaf, making shapes like HEART, square, diamond, and a few random ones and filled the gaps with colors making the leaf a stencil. My daughter wanted to cut the paper in the leaf outline and showed everyone how she made a leaf all by herself.!
